Why Support Us?
Alnwick Playhouse has been part of the community life here since 1925 when it ran as a cinema and music hall. After closure, it was converted into this vital independent arts centre in 1990 by a group of committed volunteers who believed that people in the region should have access to the best in professional arts entertainment, and as a hub for local community arts activity.
It’s always full of life – we welcome local schools, run theatre for young people, classes for all ages, programme shows for young mums and toddlers, and you - our dedicated audience are in the building 6 days a week watching film, theatre, music, opera, comedy and dance!
However, not many people realise how hard our tiny and passionate staff team have to work to keep this going. We are a registered charity, and receive just 10% of the total annual income we need from our local authority and public funders. They are under great pressure to cut spending everywhere and we really appreciate their support.
Ticket sales generates a huge 54% of our income and 21% comes from the new café/bar and other sales – but we then have to find a huge £85,000 each year in fundraising just to keep going. Here’s where you can really help keep your local arts centre thriving – please support us by making a contribution however you can.
Our audience really is the life of the Playhouse and anything you can give is re-invested back into our work. So a huge thank you to you, the Playhouse audience, for buying your tickets, using the bar and café and being our Friends – please keep giving!
