Northumberland Libraries are delighted to be partnering with Alnwick Playhouse  as part of New Writing North’s Read Regional Programme 2020 to bring Yorkshire based author and historian, Clara Barley to Alnwick audiences.  A passionate storyteller, Clara has written both fiction and non-fiction books about historical characters.

Set 200 years ago in Halifax, West Yorkshire, Clara will be talking about novel The Moss House  based on the true story of Anne Lister and Ann Walker. Two very different women, trying to create a life together as well as expanding their horizons with travel and learning at odds with the norms of the day.

Clara’s talk will be followed by a screening of the Oscar nominated film Little Women adapted and directed by Greta Gerwig at 7.30pm

There will be an opportunity to purchase copies of the book and have them signed by the author.

We recommend you arrive in good time to collect any tickets – the Box Office will be open for 1 hour prior to any evening events in addition to daytime opening hours.

Parking is located to the rear of the Playhouse in the public car parks. Parking discs are required to be displayed until 6pm and are available from the Visitor Information Centre located within the Playhouse building. Please check individual car park signs for any time restrictions.

Grab a bite to eat at McKenna’s or why not relax and enjoy a drink in our Playhouse Bar? The bar will be open Tuesday-Saturday 5pm-10.30pm and serves an extensive range of drinks including draught and local bottled beers, wines, a specialist gin list and cocktails.
