OSCiLLATE A ground breaking tap dance experience choreographed by Avalon Rathgeb and Dre Torres that explores human interaction and the effects of miscommunication in Relationships. Through the use of movement, sound and light we take you on a journey from misunderstanding, confusion, fear and misconceptions to compassion, acceptance, resolution and equality. One of the shows major aspects include original analog electronic music composed specifically for this show out of electricity and it’s currents. Every sound heard in this show was manipulated from electrical currents to create tone, depth and a beautiful composition.

Old Kent Road was founded by Artistic Director Avalon Rathgeb in 2014 and aims to gather the very best tap dancers and musicians which have inspired her journey to create unique stylised tap choreography that is bigger and better than the sum of its parts.

OKR is a passionate group of tap dancers who are raising the bar in the UK tap dance scene. Bringing their expertise to the British public and sharing the wonder of the art form, they work together to develop distinctive choreography and pay homage to history and jazz culture along the way. Old Kent Road have been awarded Arts Council England funding 4 times which they are honoured to have received and gives them the ability to continue creating and sharing Tap dance.

After a run of sold out shows in and critically acclaimed reviews of ‘Fall Out’ in 2018 Old Kent Road premiered their new show ‘OSCiLLATE’ premiering at The Lilian Baylis Theatre at Sadler’s Wells, followed by a 2 week programme at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival at Scotland’s National centre for Dance ‘DanceBase’.  DanceEast awarded the company with artistic residency and commissioned the redevelopment and expansion of OSCiLLATE.

OKR have performed at venues including: Tanz Haus- Dusseldorf, The South Bank Centre as part of IndiaUK2017, Tabernacle W11, Latitude Music Festival, DanceEast- Ipswich, Salisbury PlayHouse, Bath Theatre Royal- Ustinov Studio Theatre, Dance City Newcastle, Xintiandi Festival in Shanghai China.

Old Kent Road are excited for their upcoming 2019/20 tour of OSCiLLATE.

We recommend you arrive in good time to collect any tickets – the Box Office will be open for 1 hour prior to any evening events in addition to daytime opening hours.

Parking is located to the rear of the Playhouse in the public car parks. Parking discs are required to be displayed until 6pm and are available from the Visitor Information Centre located within the Playhouse building. Please check individual car park signs for any time restrictions.

Grab a bite to eat at McKenna’s or why not relax and enjoy a drink in our Playhouse Bar? The bar will be open Tuesday-Saturday 5pm-10.30pm and serves an extensive range of drinks including draught and local bottled beers, wines, a specialist gin list and cocktails.
