Work Experience

We aim to offer a maximum of 6 work experience placements each year (2 per season) for students wishing to undertake their placement with us.

Our placements are tailored to give each student an insight into all the core aspects involved in the day to day running of a theatre, including Front of House, Box Office, Marketing, Administration and Technical/Projection duties. Students undertaking a placement will spend time with each department over the course of one week to develop an understanding of the role and will be offered the opportunity to gain practical experience where possible. They will also be given the chance for a one-on-one interview with each department head to ask in-depth questions about the roles performed and gain insight into potential career paths.

While there is no scope for performing during the course of the placement, previous students have worked closely alongside visiting professional companies and gained valuable insight into performance practices along the way.

Placement opportunities will be advertised on our website when available or you can email carrie.morrison@alnwickplayhouse.co.uk including the dates you wish to be considered for and a short statement about why you wish to undertake your placement with us.

Please note: competition for places can be extremely high and in the case of several applicants for the same dates we will hold a short interview with each applicant to select who will be given a place.

Volunteering

We offer several opportunities for young people to volunteer at Alnwick Playhouse. Our volunteer stewards play a key role for every show/event we put on and are vital members of our team. For more information on how to become a volunteer steward please contact volunteers@alnwickplayhouse.co.uk

We also offer opportunities for young people to assist us in producing our youth theatre shows. Over the past few years we have developed a core production team comprised of the creative team and members of our senior group to work on desiging the show. This is an excellent opportunity for any young people interested in backstage work, costume/set design, props and technical work to develop their experience and help us to maintain the high standard of production we have achieved with the youth theatre for many years. To find out more about what oppotunities we have available and to discuss your interests and potential involvement please email carrie.morrison@alnwickplayhouse.co.uk
