Schools go free

Schools go free

Schools Go Free offers primary-age children from 22 schools in the NE66 and NE65 catchment area two fully-funded cultural activities at Alnwick Playhouse every year, with free travel available.

Activities include live theatre, music and film, plus participatory workshops across visual arts, drama, storytelling, local history, and contemporary dance. The initiative does more than provide a day out: it looks to build confidence and curiosity, and to make cultural participation feel familiar, welcoming and possible.

Upcoming schools performances and workshops

Schools Go Free is one of the most important ways Alnwick Playhouse is helping children and young people experience culture, regardless of their school budget, family circumstances or rural location.

Donations to Alnwick Playhouse help sustain this programme alongside our wider charitable work with children, artists, community groups and local audiences.

To give an idea of what delivering Schools Go Free involves, the average costs include:

£5 for a live performance, screening or workshop for one child;
£10 for one child’s activity and transport for a visit;
£20 for two visits for one child, including activities and transport;
£150 for a return coach journey;
£300 for an average class visit to experience live theatre, music, or an educational workshop.

By supporting Alnwick Playhouse, you can help us keep cultural experiences accessible and continue creating opportunities for people across our community.

Schools Go Free would not be possible without the generous support of:

  • Backstage Trust
  • The Mila Charitable Organisation
  • Alnwick Town Council
  • Blackshaws
  • The Ludlow Trust
